I was born July 12, 1979 and grew up in St. Louis, MO. Since I was a kid I've loved art and drumming. When I was about 7 years old, I learned Transcendental Meditation. The experience of transcending led me to Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, IA, where I earned a BFA in painting and BA in secondary education in 2002. Since then, I have been a full time teacher, with assignments in middle school math, elementary special-ed, middle school art, and high school film and digital photography. I live with my two children in Wentzville, MO and since 2014 have been teaching Art at Timberland High School in the Wentzville R-IV School District. In 2018, I completed my Masters in Art Education at the University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou). I live with my two children in Wentzville, MO and since 2014 have been teaching Art at Timberland High School in the Wentzville R-IV School DIstrict.
Drawing, painting, and photography have traditionally been my favorite mediums. However, I'm looking forward to exploring more digital arts, as the courses I teach starting the 24-25 school year, will involve more digital illustration and animation. I've never really felt that I had a particular style, but an ability to do many. Having been a teacher for so many years, it's allowed me the opportunity to work with a variety of media and subject matter. Often pieces are what I call working demos, where I put in a few minutes here and there at school, but most often take it home to finish and bring back, using my work as teaching tools. It's important to me that my students see me as a teacher/artist.
Some of the themes I explore include time, beauty, nature, and spirituality. I love playing with the juxtaposition of the figure over colored, peeling, and chipping paint, through weathered, rusty layers, or a car seat deteriorating and unfolding, revealing it’s inner textures, slowly over time. I experiment in finding ways to convey silence through photography. I find joy in painting portraits of family members or the unique personalities of friends I meet along the way. Hiking and family travel photos also inspire and inform my work.
